Goal 1: Council Engagement

Local council passes a resolution supporting Fairtrade, and agrees to serve Fairtrade products (for example, in meetings, offices and canteens).


Council Resolution – “Local council passes a resolution supporting Fairtrade

Requirement: The wording of the resolution must include a statement of support for Fairtrade and a commitment to use Fairtrade products whenever possible (in meetings, offices and canteens for example).

Status: On 11th April 2007 Peterborough City Council passed a motion supporting Fairtrade at their full council meeting.


Product Availability – “Local council agrees to serve Fairtrade products

Requirement: The council must take practical action on the resolution and introduce Fairtrade products in meetings, offices and canteens.

Status: Peterborough City Council offers Fairtrade tea, coffee, hot chocolate in meeting rooms.


Council representative ✔

Requirement: There must be a named council representative (member or officer) on the Fairtrade steering group.

Status: Clare Foster, the council’s Environment Strategy Technical Officer, sits on the Fairtrade Peterborough steering group.
