2019

Fairtrade Fortnight 2019

25 February – 10 March

This fortnight is a chance to raise awareness of and celebrate Fairtrade. The theme this year is She Deserves a Living Wage, further details of which are available on the Fairtrade Foundation’s Fairtrade Fortnight page.

 

Wednesday at One Talk

27 February

Fairtrade on your Table – what? why? how? when?
Join Peterborough’s Fairtrade Steering Group for Wednesday at One in the Cathedral to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight 2019!
There will be music led by Beki Sellick (this will include an optional Christian prayer and a Bible reading); followed by 1.30pm Lunch and Fairtrade food sampling (optional); plus your chance to pick up more information and buy goods at our Fairtrade not-for-profit, not-in-the-shops-yet stall.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2018

26 February – 11 March

The annual Fairtrade Fortnight event took place on the 26 February to the 11 March. In 2018 the focus was around Come On In, the idea of building trust in Fairtrade by inviting people to come on in to see the difference Fairtrade can make to farming communities.

Come On In And Smell the Coffee!

27 February 2018

As part of the Tuesdays til Two events we held a lunchtime talk on Tuesday 27 February at St John The Baptist Church. Our Fairtrade member, Beki, shared her amazing experiences of Fairtrade farming in Peru.

 

Fairtrade Stall at Becket’s Team Room

3 March 2018

We were in Becket’s Tea Room from noon on Saturday 3 March, with many Fairtrade foods and crafts for the public to purchase.

 

Green Festival 2018

Saturday 11 – 12 August 2018

We were excited to be part of the ever successful Peterborough Green Festival, which relocated to Nene Park for 2018.


2017

 

Fairtrade Fortnight 2017

29 February – 13 March 2017

The annual Fairtrade Fortnight event took place on the 29 February to the 13 March. In 2017 the focus was around a Fairtrade Breakfast.

It’s a scandal that the people who grow the food we take for granted can’t always feed their own families. So, we chose to support farmers and workers to allow them to put food on the table for their families.

Here are some of the events that went on in Peterborough over the fortnight:

 

Fairtrade Cooked Breakfast

13 March 2017

We held a Fairtrade full English at St Andrew’s Church, Netherton. Everyone enjoyed a cooked breakfast of locally sourced sausages and bacon plus Fairtrade cereals, Geobars, and beverages.

The team at PECT sat down to breakfast together. They opted for a ‘bring and share’ style, which allowed them to each contribute a dish, in return for being able share each others dishes!

This event demonstrated Peterborough’s journey so far towards becoming a Fairtrade City; and how you could help us over the finish line.

Council Fairtrade Breakfast

3 March 2017

With the support of Travelchoice, we ran an informal breakfast for council staff. This allowed staff to collect a Fairtrade tea or coffee on the way in to their offices.

And for the more adventurous there was the chance to create their own smoothie through peddling a special ‘smoothie bike’ to blend Fairtrade bananas with other fruit and juices!

Peterborough Green Festival

13 August 2016

We had a great day on our stall at the Green Festival, hosted by PECT.  Take a look at our Facebook video which shows all we had on offer on the day.

Fairtrade Cooked Breakfast

13 March 2016

We held a Fairtrade full English at St Andrew’s Church, Netherton. We raised £154 for the Fairtrade Foundation through serving visitors a cooked breakfast of locally sourced sausages and bacon plus Fairtrade cereals, Geobars, and beverages.

This month Westgate Methodist Church hosted the Churches Together in Central Peterborough‘s monthly Prayer Breakfast. They provided as breakfast spread including Fairtrade tea , sugar, coffee, cereals and bananas.

Council Fairtrade Breakfast

Primary Schools Fairtrade Conference

26 February 2016

This was an exciting new venture, in which we invited Year 4/5 pupils from Peterborough schools to attend a special Fairtrade day. Pupils learnt about fair trade, through interactive workshops and discovered how other schools in the city became Fairtrade Schools. Staff were also able to pick up tips and resources available to introduce within their own schools.

 

Wine Tasting with a Fair trade twist

We held an informal evening sampling vibrant Fair trade wines and delicious nibbles at Becket’s Tea Room, Peterborough Cathedral. The evening’s events included a talk from a member of the Faritrade Foundation and a raffle with Fairtrade food hampers. Further details can be found here.

Interactive Information Stand

28 February 2015

As part of Fairtrade Fortnight we set up an Interactive Information Stand in Queensgate Shopping Centre. We had lots of fun handing out free Fairtrade chocolates and chatting to shoppers on where they can find Fairtrade products within Peterborough.

A Wine Tasting with a Fairtrade Twist

3 March 2015

Many joined us for our Fairtrade Wine Tasting at Peterborough Cathedral’s Becket’S Tea Room. We held an informal evening, sampling vibrant Fairtrade wine and delicious nibbles and enjoying the chance to discover more about Fairtrade across the globe.

Teacher Twilight

4 March 2015

We held a Teacher Twilight event on 4 March. This was a great chance for teachers to discover more about Fairtrade and resources available for their school.

Peterborough Green Festival

23 May 2015

We had a good day at this year’s Peterborough Green Festival. The sun shone as we welcomed visitors to our stall in the city centre. There was chocolate tasting as well as a chance to buy a variety of Fairtrade products.

Fairtrade Coffee Morning

13 June 2015

The Werrington Fairtrade Group held a fantastic Fairtrade Coffee Morning on 13 June at Werrington Village Centre. There was home baking, Fairtrade food and crafts, with donations for refreshments going to Christian Aid. Lots of bargains were had!

Fairtrade Fortnight 2014

24 February – 9 March 2014

Banish the Unfair Banana was the theme for Fairtrade Fortnight 2014. We consume 1.2 billion Fairtrade bananas each year, that is only 1 in 3 bananas. Despite the achievement of the increase each year, there remain serious problems with the banana industry and getting a fairer deal for the banana farmer.

Fairtrade Detective

24 February – 9 March 2014

As part of Fairtrade Fortnight 2014, we asked all schools in Peterborough to become Fairtrade Detectives and find FAIRTRADE Marked products in local shops and catering outlets in Peterborough. The winning schools received a trophy and Fairtrade Resources pack and had the knowledge of helping Peterborough achieve Fairtrade City status.

Fairtrade Primary Schools Conference

26 February 2014

Peterborough’s first Fairtrade Conference for Primary Schools took place at Ken Stimpson Community School for 80 lucky pupils. This exciting venture was organised by the Fairtrade Peterborough Steering Group in conjunction with Bridges.

Sr Mary Mason and Iain Simper, gave presentations on Fairtrade Peterborough city campaign to delegates at Bondholder’s Breakfast.

Green Festival 2014

24 May 2014

On 24 May Cathedral Square in Peterborough city centre was transformed ready for the launch of the Green Festival 2014. In the circus tent we set up an old fashioned arcade full of eco-friendly games inspired by the city’s Green Wheel network of cycle-ways. These included a coconut shy, hook-a-duck or hoopla and opportunity to win a brand new bike.

Faith Groups: Coffee Cupping Session

23 September 2014

We ran a session on how your place of worship can promote Fairtrade to your worshippers and wider community. This was run at Masteroast, which offered Fairtrade coffee tasting ahead of its distribution across the country.

East of England Supporters Conference

18 October 2014

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the FAIRTRADE Mark, this regional conference was an opportunity to come together to share knowledge, strengthen networks and inspire new ideas. The conference theme for 2014 was “The Future for Fairtrade” and included a talk by a Fairtrade producer.

22 October 2014

Our Annual General Meeting, open to all, discussed the latest progress on Peterborough’s aspirations to become a Fairtrade City and held a presentation by pupils from a local school on their Fairtrade project.

Fairtrade Cotton Exhibition

Collection of photographs by celebrity snapper Trevor Leighton of celebrity’s wearing Fairtrade cotton clothing was on display within the Museum with Fairtrade cotton bags with designs by The Kings School.
